HIV/AIDS: Capacity Building & Awareness Programs, Phase 3 in two districts of Bihar and in the Industrial belts of Mumbai, India.
Gender Dimension of HIV/AIDS: Steps taken by WWHI
1. Dissemination of Information and Knowledge on gender concerns
2. Gender Sensitization through Programs in Educational Institutes
3. Training for Trainers for raising awareness on gender sensitization, HIV/AIDS & related concerns.
4. Recognize women's work in its entirety- in the organized, unorganized sectors and domestic sphere.
5. Create awareness on women's issues e.g. gender discrimination, domestic violence, sexual and reproductive health, and emphasize the importance is sanitation and hygiene.
Interlink various stakeholders to create greater synergies for common concerns: Trade Unions, National and International Organizations, Educational Institutes, NGOs, SHG groups, Women groups and grass root level workers.
Programme of Phase 3:
1. Planning Workshop in Mumbai
2. Mapping for HIV/AIDS Prevalence in 3 areas of the Industrial belts, Mumbai (India): with the support of Trade Unions/Local Governing bodies and Local NGOs.
Target districts: The Industrial belt of Mumbai (Bhiwandi, Navi Mumbai & Taloja)
This project is being conducted together with Trade unions, Local NGOs, elected Panchayat members, health workers etc.
Objectives:
1. To understand the mechanisms between migratory patterns and the spread of HIV/AIDS in the 'Destination Point'
2. To create awareness and sensitization about women's vulnerability to HIV/AIDS
3. Training for Trainers in selected areas of Bihar and Maharashtra on HIV/AIDS.
4. Linking Educational Institutes for Gender Sensitization & HIV/AIDS Awareness Programmes.
