Programs in 2007-08:
HIV/AIDS - A Workplace Issue:
- Planning Workshop on Training of Trainers for HIV/AIDS was organized in March 2006 in New Delhi to train the animators, grass root level workers and local coordinators better outreach in our Direct Intervention (DI) areas.
- The issue of HIV/AIDS as a source of discrimination at the workplace, and the long term impact on the economy as a whole in terms of reduced savings and investments, was a major concern for all. The vulnerability of women to the disease, with more than 70 percent infections caused by heterosexual transmissions, with the situation further aggravated because of women's low socio-economic status, was a further cause of concern.
- The findings of this workshop gave rise to the idea of conducting 5 workshops in different cities of India. These workshops were conducted in Lucknow (UP), Patna (Bihar) Jamshedpur, (Jharkhand), Hyderabad (AP) and Nagpur (Maharashtra) during a year long program.
- These workshops involved the following groups: Trade Unions, Employers, NGO's, HIV +, State Control Boards, MSM, CSW, Academics, along with various resource persons from UNDP, UNICEF, National Cadet Corps (NCC), Human Rights and Legal groups, Population Foundation for India & Government agencies.
